Early Summer Wildflower Bridal Photos

In the heart of June, when the breeze whispers secrets through the towering pines and the wildflowers burst forth in a riot of colors, there exists a kind of magic that can only be found in Montana’s embrace. Picture this: a warm summer sun filtering through the leaves, casting dappled shadows on the forest floor, where love stories unfold like the pages of an epic novel. Proposal photo sessions can be a bit daunting for both the person proposing and the photographer! A Wintery and Romantic Couple Photo Session in Whitefish, Montana
It's hard to beat a couple that's truly in love, and ready to flirt and be touchy in front of the camera. happy face
These two did such a good job with their attire and attitudes on this snowy day in Whitefish in November. The snow was the perfect amount of fluff, and added such a painterly background for their photos! As they came from Texas, there were a couple of things I told them to prepare for: Have extra, warm clothes and blankets in the car. Wear hand warmers. Have a good attitude!
Look at these guys.... such a sexy couple!
A Winter Senior Photo Session in Whitefish, Montana
Winter sessions aren't the most popular thing in the world, as they are cold and overall harder to execute because it may be hard to walk around, and wear the clothes you want to!
However, when someone does decide to do winter photos, the hard work is WORTH IT! This stunning day in Whitefish, Montana was perfect as the most fluffy snow had just fallen throughout Northern Montana. The pristine whiteness of the background made Emalee's dress really stand out! In all, I really hope to book more seniors throughout the winter as it's beautiful and unique!
How to Prepare for a Snowy Photo Session
A lot of my clients come from southern states and aren't all that familiar with snow. To prepare, especially if you're not familiar with snowy places, you'll need:
1. A car with a good grip. If you're renting a car, ask for something that's 4x4 with snow tires. The roads are sometimes completely covered with snow.
2. Extra clothes for after your session. This is especially true for kids. I highly encourage my families to roll around, throw snowballs, and get snowy. This means wetness in the car!
3. Hand warmers! I always have these in my bag to give to clients, but extras are always a good idea.
4. A good attitude! You're going to get cold. We will keep moving, and laughing, and in some places, we can even keep the car running for warm breaks.

It's the perfect spot for a romantic getaway close to the many activities in Glacier!
Where are Dogs Allowed in Glacier National Park? Where Can We Take Photos with Them?
Millions of people travel to Glacier National Park every year, and many bring dogs! However, dogs are not allowed in most areas for their protection and the delicate wildlife ecosystem of the park. So where can you take them out of the car and where can we stay with them?
Here is an excerpt straight from the National Park Service website -
"Pets are allowed in developed areas such as: in your cars while driving park roads, front country campgrounds, picnic areas, along roads when you are stopped, in parking areas, and in boats on lakes where motorized watercraft are permitted. Pets are not permitted on trails, along lake shores outside of developed locations, in the backcountry, or in any building. Pets must be on a leash no longer than 6 feet (1.8 m), under physical restraint, or caged at all times, including while in open-bed pickup trucks. Pets are not to be left tied to an object when unattended. Pet owners must pick up after their pets and dispose of waste in a trash receptacle. Owners must not allow a pet to make noise that is unreasonable. When the bike path between Apgar and West Glacier is free of snow dogs are allowed on leash. When roads are closed to vehicle traffic, they are considered a backcountry trail and dogs are not allowed. What can you do with your pet when you are hiking? Do not leave your pet in a closed vehicle. If the air temperature outside is 80 degrees F, it will only take two minutes for the temperature inside your vehicle to reach over 94 degrees. Within an hour it can reach over 120 degrees F. Glacier National Park frequently sees days well in excess of 90 degrees, increasing those internal car temperatures dramatically."
A Fall Couples Session in Glacier National Park
Brad reached out the day before their session date to see if I would be available! Luckily I was, and this couple was just so in love, and capturing their genuine emotions and connection on camera was heartwarming. As the sun began to set, the light was absolutely perfect, casting a warm glow over the couple as they cuddled up together. It was such a magical evening, and I feel so grateful to have been able to document such a special moment in their relationship!
How to Have a Sunrise Session in Glacier and Why you Should Do it!
Regardless of peak season or not, the best way to make sure we get started on time is to plan on getting to the parking area around 1 hour before sunrise. Yep. You read that correctly. That means arriving around 4 am in the summer and 6:30 am in the fall. I'm not kidding!
Many things can happen, causing delays - weather, animals on the road, wrecks, and traffic. With the correct preparations, none of these are worrisome! I also highly recommend bringing snacks, water, and hiking boots (depending on where we are shooting!)
In summer, it is required to have a reservation on the west side of Glacier from 6am-3pm ($2) and a general entrance pass ($30), however many sessions require you to get in the park well before that to get the good lighting!
Summer Adventure Family Photography in Glacier National Park
We started at the falls, which is the only spot that requires a short walk! We admired the turquoise water and snuggled on the rocks. We then headed up to Big Bend, an iconic spot that requires no walk! This location is one of the most popular spots to stop at in the park. After a while there, we headed back down to West Glacier for our field location, which is one of my favorites to add to the end of a session. The large field is perfect for kids to run, play, and look for wildflowers and sticks. The boys did just that - and it was needed after a long car ride!
If you're interested in an adventure session, both with or without hiking, let me know! These are my favorite kinds of family sessions, as I get a chance to show more people one of my favorite places in the world!

Alex (Your fav photographer)
When Summer Meets Fall in Whitefish, Montana
This fall wedding in Whitefish, Montana was the perfect example of elegance + simplicity. My favorite part of the entire day was the first look + private vow exchange, which in my opinion is the perfect way to incorporate intimacy into your special day, while also celebrating with others. It was an emotional moment, which beautifully captured how much they truly love each other.

Alex (Your fav elopement and wedding photog)
What to Expect when Eloping in Glacier National Park in the Fall
The most important thing to prepare in the fall is A GOOD ATTITUDE! The weather will do what it wants, and only you can choose to have a good time still. Here are some other ways to prep:
1. Bear spray
2. Extra hair spray and makeup
3. You may get rained on - like this couple. Bring a towel!
4. I provide clear umbrellas, but it's good to have one of your own
5. Hiking boots (this bride is wearing Uggs) and snow gear
6. It's beautiful literally everywhere here! If we have to change locations - HAVE A GOOD ATTITUDE!
Here's a link straight from the Glacier National Park website on info on permits and construction closures (I help with all of this). In the fall, reservation requirements end on September 28th but you still need a permit to have your ceremony in the park! You must get that permit application in asap - it can take a few weeks to get back! All in all eloping in the mountains is so magical and romantic. It's a wonderful story to tell others about one day, and with a photographer on your side, you're going to have some badass art to hang on your walls and show off to your friends!
An Intimate Proposal Photo Session at Lake Mcdonald in Glacier National Park
Capturing this fleeting moment was a privilege and a joy. The raw emotion, the overwhelming happiness, the stunning backdrop of Glacier National Park – all these elements came together to create a memory that will last a lifetime. And moments like these remind me of why I love what I do. Photography is more than just taking pictures; it is about capturing moments, telling stories, and preserving memories. It is about freezing time so we can relive the beauty and emotion of a single moment for years to come. And in a place as magnificent as Glacier National Park, those moments are truly special.
Summer Sunset Maternity Session in Bigfork, Montana
When having maternity photos done, here are a few things I like to educate my clients on before a session: Your comfort matters most. Wear something that you're comfortable in AND you feel beautiful in. There are so many dresses at all price points that I love. I will always help in the search! Perfect hair isn't a must. You should definitely do your hair. However, in Montana, be prepared for lots of wind! I personally love the look of hair flowing in the wind! Bring a change of clothes and a towel for afterward. I often have my couples get in the water, which means you'll need something comfortable in the car! The biggest thing to remember is to HAVE FUN! Do the silly thing, laugh, makeout, and overall make the experience the memory! The photos are a wonderful addition, in the end.
Pregnancy Announcement Turned Romantic Couples Session in Glacier National Park
This wonderful baby announcement session became a gorgeous, romantic vacation photo session in Glacier National Park. I love taking my out-of-state clients to multiple locations in the park, as there is so much variety to offer, it's as if you're getting multiple photoshoots in one! We started at the bridge, just outside of the entrance to the park. This is one of my favorite locations, as it offers stunning turquoise water with beautiful rocks to climb on for a unique and artistic feel. Then we moved onto Lake Mcdonald, which offers stunning views with the ability to see Alpinglow during golden hour. We were having so much fun, that we extended the session (for free) and these two really were so comfortable in front of the camera. I often ask my clients to get into the water. It's a wonderful and beautiful experience (also a cold one, haha) that adds so much dimension and story to photos.
All in all, this is a great example of why booking a long enough session to do 2 locations is so necessary!
Love,
Alex, your favorite Glacier National Park maternity, family, couples, engagement, and elopement photographer
How to Prepare for a Hiking Photo Session in Glacier National Park
When the Birrd family reached out to me to schedule a session at Avalanche Lake I was STOKED! Any session involving a hike in Glacier National Park is one I want to do. The best part about this adventure session was that this family dressed so beautifully and there were 11 of them, so we go to do so many amazing photos from the whole family, to senior photos, to romantic couples photos.
When doing any photo session in Glacier, it's important to prepare! Here are some things that I required this family bring to their session:
1. Bear spray
2. Lots of water
3. Snacks
4. Change of clothes
5. A comb and extra makeup (the walk up is sweaty)
6. A good attitude!
After our hike to the top, we took a break, ate, and got ready! From there, we took the needed "grandma photo" (whole groups, everyone looking at the camera). Then we moved on to my favorite images, where everyone got a change to take any photo or pose they wanted! I love to guide everyone to have photos taken that are true to their own personality. We did a small family session, a fun portrait moment for all the teenaged girls, and romantic couples photos in and out of the water.
Wildflower Senior Photos in Glacier National Park
This summer session in Glacier National Park turned into a fun and whimsical sister-senior session and we had so much fun giggling, frolicking, and picking wildflowers (we are outside of the park, if you are in Glacier please DO NOT pick wildflowers)!
These girls had no idea what they were walking into when we started our session, and once I mentioned the flowers, they immediately opened up and were natural in front of the camera! The weather was perfect, and I cannot wait for more flowers to come out this spring!
